SIU investigating after man reportedly jumps out window during arrest in Brantford

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into the arrest of a Brantford man.

In an email to CTV News on Tuesday, the SIU said Brantford Police Service officers were called to the Chatham Street and Queen Street area around 4:15 p.m. Friday after someone said they had been attacked by a person with a gun.

“Upon arriving at the scene, officers located a 31-year-old man who was not related to the initial call, but who was wanted on another matter. The man proceeded to jump out of a window and fell to the ground below,” the email said.

Police arrested the man and charged him with carrying a concealed weapon, failure to comply, failure to attend court and possession of a weapon contrary to an order.

The SIU said when the man was at the police station he complained that he was in pain and was then taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.

Three SIU investigators and a forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

The Special Investigations Unit is called in whenever an interaction with police results in death, injury or allegations of sexual assault.
