Wild weather: Hurricanes and deadly floods

CTV Edmonton's Josh Classen recaps a week of wild weather: flooding in Arizona and Odesa, and Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda.

Deadly flooding in Arizona

At least four people are dead following deadly flooding in Arizona.

Homes and business were destroyed in the flash flood and more than 1,000 fuel tanks were washed away from a distribution facility. Authorities remain concerned that they could potentially explode.

Hurricanes Humberto, Imelda

Hurricane Humberto briefly reached Category 5 status. That means the first three hurricanes of the Atlantic season have all reached major status, with two of them being Category 5s.

Hurricane Imelda (the fourth hurricane of the season) continues to strengthen, but it’s expected to max out at a Category 2. Airports, schools and government buildings were closed in Bermuda ahead of Imelda’s arrival. The storm has already produced deadly flooding in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Heavy rain and potential flooding is also possible along parts of the US east coast.

Heavy rain in Odesa

Nearly two months’ worth of rain fell in just seven hours in the Ukrainian city of Odesa.

Those severe storms led to widespread flooding and at least nine people were killed in the floods.

Hundreds of people needed to be rescued and tens of thousands of people were left without power.
