Edmonton police released numbers on shootings in the city in 2024 and the total number was down by 47 per cent.
In 10 out of 12 months last year, there were fewer shootings compared to the previous year, with a total of 118 in 2024 and 221 in 2023.

In December 2024, police reported seven shootings, compared to 17 shootings in December 2023.
Of those seven, six are believed to be targeted shootings, six resulted in reported injuries and there were three deaths, according to police.
In three of December’s incidents there was potential for bystanders to be harmed.
“It’s excellent that we saw an annual decrease in shootings in 2024 as compared to 2023,” said Staff Sgt. Eric Stewart, with the EPS guns and gangs section in a news release.
“As we look toward the new year, we remain committed to tackling gun crime, serious crimes and keeping firearms off of our streets.”
Last month, police seized 49 firearms, with 804 being seized over the course of the year. That number is also down from 892 seized in 2023.
