The man charged with fraud after money disappeared from an Edmonton youth soccer team’s tournament fund was arrested in Sherwood Park on Saturday.

RCMP were tipped off about Randy Knodel’s location around 6:20 a.m.

They found him in a vehicle in a parking lot and arrested him on behalf of Edmonton police without incident, a spokesperson said.

Knodel was released on a promise to appear in court in Edmonton on March 17.

He faces 13 charges, including seven counts of fraud over $5,000.

A warrant for his arrest was issued last week.

Although the nature of the alleged fraud is not known, a man with the same name is the coach of the Selects Football Club’s Tier 1 boys team in Edmonton.

The team fundraised approximately $50,000 to attend a soccer tournament in Las Vegas this month but days before the trip, the coach and about $40,000 went missing, according to the team’s manager.
