A driver is facing over $2,000 in fines after seizures made during a traffic stop.
Mounties say the driver of the Dodge Ram was spotted driving at excessive speeds on Highway 21 near Township Road 542 on Thursday evening by members of the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP.
Police stopped the truck and established grounds to search it.
A total of 7,800 illegal cigarettes were seized, according to police.
The driver was detained under the Customs and Excise Act, but has since been released.
Mounties say the illegal tobacco market continues to attract organized crime in Canada.
