The golden arches at a south Edmonton McDonald’s restaurant were rebranded to celebrate Connor McDavid’s golden goal for Canada.
Customers at the Calgary Trail McDonald’s were greeted with a new sign Friday, with the building now bearing the name McDavid’s.
When the Oilers were up against the Panthers in the 2024 Stanley Cup final, a promise was made that if the Oilers brought home the cup, a McDonald’s franchise would temporarily rebrand in celebration.
The Oilers did lose in Game 7 of that series, but McDavid did score the overtime winner against the U.S. in the 2025 4 Nations tournament, netting Canada the gold.
“So we kept our end of the wager and made it McDavid’s,” said franchise owner Chat Sangha.
“It’s just about celebrating, it’s a great Canadian moment.”

In January, McDonald’s began an NHL-themed promotion, focussing on McDavid with the Big Mac-David burger and Leaf’s forward Auston Matthews with the Smoky Quarter Papi.
With Canada getting gold, the Big Mac-David will be sticking around “in overtime,” Sangha added. Edmonton locations are also offering small fries for $0.97 as a nod to number 97.
The McDavid’s in Edmonton is one of two in Canada, the other is in Newmarket, Connor McDavid’s hometown.
The restaurant rebranding will be around for a week, according to Sangha.
The Oilers are on a five game losing streak and face the Hurricanes Saturday at 5 p.m.
