On Friday, visitors will be welcomed back for winter camping at Wapiti Campground.
Parks Canada said on Tuesday that the campground will be reopening while cleanup from this summer’s wildfire continues.
According to a press release, the AA electrical loop and 40 first-come, first-served self-registration campsites will be available. Guests will also have access to potable water and heated washrooms and showers.
Water is not available for filling holiday trailers, and the sanitation dump station is closed for the season.
Parks Canada said access beyond the winter camping area is restricted while cleanup work is completed on loops A to W. Large vehicles and heavy equipment will be working in the area to remove downed and dangerous trees, and may occasionally access the campground through the campers' entrance.
That work will happen Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Parks Canada recommends winter campers check the weather and pack according to the conditions. That includes bringing ice cleats for winter walking on trails.
