‘It was like sleeping on the edge of a really rocky cliff’: 24 hours on the ferris wheel

CTV News Edmonton checks in with a man going round and round again on a ferris wheel to raise money for sick kids after his first night hanging out.

Chris Scheetz is at the halfway point of his world-record breaking attempt at KDays to raise money to grant the wishes of sick kids.

On Monday, Scheetz boarded the ferris wheel at KDays and plans to be on it until 5 p.m. Wednesday, taking a five-minute break every hour to use the bathroom.

CTV News Edmonton checked in with Scheetz Tuesday morning after he spent the night suspended in the wheel.

“It was like sleeping on the edge of a really rocky cliff,” Scheetz said. “I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t get much sleep.

“The ride was actually stopped, I was just in the air.”

A security guard was watching as a safety precaution, but Scheetz was in good spirits once he was moving again and had some company.

He’s doing this to raise money for Alberta Dreams, an organization that grants wishes to sick kids. Some of the kids the organization has worked with have been joining him off and on.

“If I can make a difference in their lives and have a little fun along the way… this is a little fun for me and my riders, they love it too,” said Scheetz.

More than $28,000 had been donated to Alberta Dreams as of Tuesday afternoon. The goal is to raise $54,000 by the end of the 54 hours.

“If we don’t, well, I still have to get off. I promised my wife, but maybe I won’t get off, maybe I ride until we get to that goal,” he said.
