Spring Break starts Monday. If you are skipping a trip, here are some family-friendly ways to pass the time in Edmonton.
Free
The Edmonton Public Library will be holding Spring Break events until March 29 at branches across the city, offering games, concerts, performances and activities for kids. Some classes may require registration. Visit the Edmonton Public Library website to find a full list of events or register.
The Edmonton Arts Council will hold Spring on the Square in Churchill Square from March 24 to 28 between noon and 4 p.m. Family-friendly programming will include outdoor activities, games, sports and workshops. For more information, visit the Edmonton Arts Council website.
Participating Indigo stores will be hosting free events for kids at 1 p.m. Monday to Sunday. Details can be found on the Indigo website.
Mastermind Toys will also be holding spring break events in store Monday to Friday, including demos and activities for kids seven and up. Details can be found on the Mastermind website.
Camps
The City of Edmonton offers multiple day camps for kids from March 24 to 28, with information available on the city website.
- A Time Traveller camp for kids six to eight will run at the John Walter Museum from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids will explore what life was like in the past through play. It costs $255.
- Dino-Mania and Eco-Art camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the John Janzen Nature Centre. They each cost $225.
- Wild for Survival camp runs Wednesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the John Janzen Nature Centre, offering a look at how to live off the land. It costs $135.
- Full Day camps will be available for kids between 6 and 12 at The Meadows, Clareview and the Booster Juice recreation centres. They run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday and cost $235.
The Edmonton Humane Society will hold a Spring Bark Camp March 24 to 28. Kids six to 10 will learn more about animals, as well as take part in games and other activities. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and costs $330. Visit the Edmonton Humane Society website to register.
The Telus World of Science Edmonton (TWOSE) day camps run March 24 to 28 for various ages, including grades eight to 12. Camps run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and additional pre-and post-childcare can be added for an extra fee. Costs for kids camps are $350, while the youth camps for grades eight to 12 are $75. Other events
The City of Edmonton is offering two-for-one admission for the Valley Zoo and the Muttart Conservatory. Until March 31, a ticket to one will be able to be used for free admission to the other. Visits don’t have to be on the same day, as long at both fall within the time-frame of the offer.
The Royal Alberta Museum will be holding special hours and activities from March 22 to 30 for Spring Break. Events include live animal encounters, storytime, dino dentistry and garden planting. Kids six and under are free. Tickets and details on programming can be found on the museum’s website.
TWOSE will be holding Spring Break events for kids and youth between March 22 and 30, all included with general admission. Activities include science demonstrations, a sci-fi film fest, hands-on skill building and interactive exhibits. Additional fees apply for Imax movies and laser shows.
Landmark and Cineplex cinemas are both offering Spring Break deals on family friendly films with tickets starting at $5. Details can be found on the Landmark and Cineplex websites.
