Fort McMurray woman accused of drug trafficking also accused of exposing child

A Fort McMurray woman is accused of exposing her toddler to drug-trafficking activity.

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), says police had been investigating the woman when on Oct. 31 they watched her complete a drug transaction with the child present.

Later, during a warranted search of the woman’s home, investigators found cocaine near the child’s toys and play area.

In total, they found 25 grams of cocaine, which has an estimated street value of $2,500.

The woman was charged with drug trafficking, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, causing a child to be in need of intervention, and other charges under Alberta’s Drug-Endangered Children Act, which allows intervention when children are believed to be living in drug houses or exposed to drug manufacturing or other illegal drug activity.

Alberta Children’s Services was notified.
