Edmonton weather: Warm spell lingers until a weekend shift

According to Cory Edel's forecast, the sun and warmth will stick around for Wednesday.

Another day with sunshine, an afternoon high in the mid-teens and some gusty conditions through the afternoon.

Gusts in the 30-40 km/h range should start around midday and carry through into the early evening hours.

There’s a bit of scattered precipitation in parts of northwestern Alberta today and a slight risk for a little sprinkle in or near the Edmonton area overnight tonight.

If that narrow band of showers develops tonight, it should mostly stay north of Edmonton.

Back to sunshine for Thursday/Friday, temperatures get a bit warmer and the wind should be calmer. We’ll be in the 16 C range for a high Thursday and around 18 C on Friday.

AND...after a frosty start to the day today, we’ll stay several degrees above 0 C both Thursday and Friday morning.

The weekend brings a transition to some cooler temperatures and a better chance of precipitation.

There’s an Upper Ridge moving in over Alberta for the coming days and that’ll push off to the east on Saturday.

So...we’ll have a pair of low-pressure system ride into the province from the southwest on the back edge of that ridge.

The first system brings us a bit of cloud and a slight chance of a scattered showers for Saturday (timing uncertain, but it doesn’t look like any significant rain).

The second system also has some uncertainty with the location of the precipitation and the timing, but there’s a much higher chance of seeing at least some rain on Sunday (compared to Saturday).

AND...we have the chance of seeing a bit of mixed precipitation or wet snow. I think the snow risk is a lot higher for northwestern Alberta, but we’ll have to wait and see how and where that system develops.

Temperatures will cooler to highs near 11 C Saturday and around 7 C on Sunday. That cooler (more seasonal) air sticks around through next week with daytime highs in the 5 to 10 degree range.
