Edmonton weather: Warm end to the month

Temperatures will climb into the 20s again in Edmonton.

It’ll be windy and we’ll have some clouds, but this historic month of September will extend the record for days in the 20s.

Today will be the 24th September day with an afternoon high of 20+ in Edmonton.

Here’s a list of the top five years with the most 20-degree days in September:

We’ve had a lot of warmer-than-average Septembers lately. The 30-year average for 20-degree days in September is just 10. But, in the past five years, that average has jumped to 17 days.

September 2025 will end up with an average daily high of 24 C.

That’s six degrees warmer than the long-term “normal” and it’s also warmer than the long-term average high for August.

The temperatures this month has been on par with an average July.

As we transition into October, things won’t change immediately. But, there is some cooler air set to move in through the coming weekend.

In the short term:

Warm and gusty Monday with the wind dying down late this evening/overnight.

Cloudy with a good chance of showers Tuesday. There’s some uncertainty with the timing on those showers. Some of the modelling is pushing it into the Edmonton region by midday, while others hold it off until later in the afternoon.

That timing will play a big role in tomorrow’s temperatures.

I’m going with 17 as the forecast high, but we could realistically be anywhere between 15 and 20.

Daytime highs will be in the 17 to 20 degree range Wednesday/Thursday/Friday as we kick off October.

But, the longer-range outlook has afternoon temperatures slipping to the low to mid teens for the weekend and next week.

Morning lows will consistently start to drop to around or slightly below zero.
