Edmonton weather: Mild week filled with flurries

But...meteorologically, we consider December, January, and February as the winter months.

After a taste of some wintry temperatures late last week, warmer air started to push into Alberta through the day Sunday and the milder temperatures will stick around through Thursday. Colder air drops back in for Friday/Saturday.

The first in a series of low-pressure systems will move across Alberta today. That’ll bring a couple centimetres of snow to northern Alberta and we may see some occasional flurries or light snow in the Edmonton region midday or early this afternoon.

There’s a cold front trailing that system that brings central Alberta another shot of flurries or light snow overnight and early Tuesday.

All told, we could see anywhere between a dusting to maybe as much as 4-5 cm of snowfall.

An arctic high briefly drops through and we’ll see temperatures falling through the day Tuesday.

After holding steady near 0 C overnight tonight, we’ll cool to the -6 C range by mid-afternoon Tuesday in Edmonton.

A bit of clearing Tuesday night will allow temperatures to slip into the -12 C to -17 C range around the Edmonton region Wednesday morning.

Then...the next low-pressure system that moves into northern Alberta on Wednesday brings another shot of snow to the north.

In central Alberta, that system will pull in some milder air. So...after a chilly start to Wednesday, we should be around 0 C in the afternoon.

A third area of low pressure moves into northwestern Alberta Thursday morning and then slides southeast through the day.

That system will also deliver most of its snow to northern Alberta. But, there’s a very good chance we’ll see some snow in and around the Edmonton area, too.

Colder air crashes in for Friday/Saturday as afternoon highs slip into the -10 C to -15 C range AND...more snow.

Looking LONG range: the weekend looks like a repeat of this past one. Cold on Saturday and then milder air starts to move in through the day Sunday.

Forecast highs for next week are up around the freezing mark once again.
