Edmonton weather: Mild spell hangs on for another week

According to Cory Edel's forecast, Edmonton is about to have another mild week of weather.

Thirteen of the first 16 days of November have been warmer than average and it looks like all (or nearly all) of the next seven days will be warmer than the seasonal average.

As I wrote about last week, we’ve had similar warm starts to November in four of the past five years. So, this isn’t THAT unusual in recent history.

BUT... the 30-year average high for the week of Nov. 17-24 is 0 C.

Only Tuesday (tomorrow) has a chance to be average (or perhaps a degree below average).

I’m leaning towards 1 C for a high tomorrow, but Cory is thinking -1 C.

We’ll be under a mix of sun and cloud with an afternoon high three or four degrees above 0 C in the city.

Snow in northwestern Alberta this morning will push east across northern Alberta through the day.

For the Edmonton region, we get a good chance of some flurries or light snow Tuesday afternoon as a weak low-pressure system slips across southern Alberta.

At this point, accumulation for the Edmonton area looks minimal. But, a dusting to 2 cm is possible.

After Tuesday, there’s no significant chance of snow for the Edmonton region (or the rest of Alberta) until early next week.

Speaking of early next week, I’m still eyeballing the 24th or 25th as the date of a big flip in temperatures.

Enjoy the mild conditions this week and this coming weekend.

It’s very likely that daytime highs will drop into the colder-than-average zone for the last week of the month and we could see a few days with high in the -5 to -10 C range.

Considering the fact that we’ve only had four morning lows in that temperature territory, that’ll be a bit of a shock to the system.
