Big bin, free eco-station weekend events return for 2026

Expect a long line of vehicles along Wayne Gretzky Drive and 119 Avenue on Saturday as Edmonton hosts a big bin event for residents to drop off household items.

City staff are preparing to host annual events to which residents can bring large, bulky household items for free disposal starting this coming weekend.

People can bring items such as furniture, appliances, other large items and refuse that isn’t allowed to be thrown away in household garbage bins – such as electronics, tires and mattresses – to the City of Edmonton’s Big Bin Events and Free Eco-Station Weekends, which are being held on several weekends over the next five months.

Household waste will not be accepted at Big Bin Events. Commercial waste will not be accepted at either event.

• May 9-10: Northlands, Wayne Gretzky Drive and 119 Avenue NW
• May 23-24: Commonwealth, 11100 Stadium Road NW
• May 30-31: Ellerslie, 2415 101 St. NW
• June 6-7: Callingwood, 17740 69 Ave. NW
• June 13-14: Terwillegar, 2051 Leger Rd. NW
• Aug. 29-30: Commonwealth, 11100 Stadium Road NW
• Sept. 12-13: Mill Woods Town Centre, 2331 66 St. NW
• Sept. 19-20: Castle Downs, 11520 153 Ave. NW

Free Eco Station Weekends

Four weekends this year are being slated for the free disposal of items at the three city locales from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Ambleside, Kennedale and Strathcona. Check the online list of items accepted at eco-stations before you go.
