Man arrested for impaired driving after 2 badly injured in crash in Beaver Bank, N.S.

A man has been arrested for impaired and dangerous driving after he and his passenger were seriously injured in a crash in Beaver Bank, N.S.

The RCMP responded to the single-vehicle collision in the 2200 block of Beaver Bank Road around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. Police found a BMW 330 in a driveway at the scene.

The driver, a 42-year-old man from Beaver Bank, was outside the vehicle and being treated by fire services when police arrived on scene.

The passenger, a 40-year-old Beaver Bank man, was unresponsive in the front-passenger seat and was also being treated by firefighters.

Investigators determined the vehicle had been travelling southbound on Beaver Bank Road before the driver lost control, which caused the car to leave the roadway, travel through a ditch and over a culvert, and become airborne before striking a power pole, cutting it in half.

Police say evidence at the scene indicated the driver may have been impaired and driving dangerously at the time of the crash.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and dangerous operation of a vehicle and given a blood demand before being taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger was also taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“At the hospital, a sample of the driver’s blood was obtained for analysis at a forensic lab to determine blood alcohol concentration,” said the RCMP. “The investigation is ongoing.”

Police are asking anyone with video footage of the BMW travelling on Beaver Bank Road between 8 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Tuesday to contact the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment at 902-490-5020.
