4 businesses to receive $1M to strengthen operations against tariffs, other global challenges

The federal government is injecting $4 million into four Alberta businesses to offset the impact of tariffs.

Each will receive $1 million through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) to expand operations, build resilience, and improve their ability to navigate global economic challenges.

CAC Metal Recycling in Acheson will expand and modernize its low-iron processing capabilities to refine a wider range of recyclable metals and reduce reliance on tariff-sensitive imported steel products.

Red Deer Ironworks is bringing the manufacturing of its steel flow-control products in-house. It recently purchased a high-capacity computer numerical control (CNC) machine, which will reduce production costs and customer order lead times.

GN Corporations in Airdrie, a metal parts manufacturer, is also purchasing CNC equipment to increase production capacity. It is aiming to expand into industries that demand extreme precision, like aviation and defence.

Hay exporter Barr-Ag in Olds has plans to invest in automated equipment to improve operational efficiency and capacity. Already selling Timothy hay, alfalfa hay, and mixed hay, it wants to expand its product offering.

Ottawa has allocated $1 billion to the RTRI, to be dispersed over three years to small and medium-sized businesses impacted by tariffs.
