One person has been charged in a death at the Edmonton Remand Centre last month.
Police were called to the centre at 3:05 p.m. on Dec. 18 for a report of an assault between two inmates.
Nathaniel Burchat, 26, was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.
An autopsy the next day found that Burchat died of a blunt head injury and his death was a homicide.
Kai Keller, 32, has been charged with second-degree murder in Burchat’s death.

Court documents show Keller is awaiting trial on first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Ashley Mawdsley who was fatally shot in Calgary in December 2022.
At the time of his arrest, the Calgary Police Service said Keller had ties to organized crime.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday in the Burchat matter.
Burchat was the second inmate to die at the remand in December.
