Two women are dead after a crash between two pick-up trucks Thursday morning on Highway 2 in Sturgeon County near Legal.

RCMP in Morinville said in an afternoon media release they answered a report at 11:34 a.m. of the fatal crash on the undivided north-south Alberta highway near Township Road 580.

One of the women who died, a 73-year-old Sturgeon County resident, was travelling by herself while the other was an 83-year-old passenger from Rochester, police said.

Emergency personnel took the other driver to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The scene has been cleared, RCMP said.

Early reports say one of the trucks lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking the other one. RCMP said road conditions were a factor in the collision.

Legal is 17 kilometres north of Morinville and 45 kilometres north of Edmonton.
