With their home ice rented out for a spring fair, the Brandon Wheat Kings went on the road to play at home Wednesday and found a way to extend their season.

The plucky prairie club rode down the Trans-Canada Highway to Virden, Man., where they played Game 4 in front of a crowd of 1,480 at the Tundra Oil & Gas Place.

Luke Shipley gave the Wheat Kings a 1-0 first-period lead, which was the first time in the series that the Wheat Kings scored first.

Brayden Edwards tied it up for the Hurricanes, but the Wheat Kings moved back ahead on a goal from Matteo Michaels.

Edwards took a four-minute penalty early in the second which ironically led to the Hurricanes scoring a short-handed goal by Brayden Yager.

The Hurricanes took another penalty, leading to a 5-on-3 power play for Brandon, but the Wheat Kings got nothing to show for it but hitting the crossbar twice.

Shortly after that, Brandon did pull ahead when Nolan Flamand scored and then, with 10 seconds left in the second period, Matteo Michels scored to make it 4-2 Wheat Kings.

In the third, Lethbridge bounced back again, getting a goal from Shane Smith 23 seconds into the period, followed by a goal from Jordan Gustafson at 3:20.

Nicholas Johnson scored with a little over six minutes left to put the Wheat Kings ahead, and Quinn Mantei scored with nine seconds left to provide the final margin.

Lethbridge outshot Brandon 42-32.

Game 5 is scheduled for Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Visit Lethbridge.com Arena.
