Vehicle stripped of all four tires in the night in front of Cochrane home

Bryce Hardy stood in a Cochrane, Alta., street this morning, staring at his vehicle propped up on blocks and stripped of its tires.

All four had been stolen, and it wasn’t even 7 a.m. yet.

He says he had “a few choice words.”

He needed to be at the vascular clinic near the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary, where he’s an unpaid practicum student from SAIT’s diagnostic medical sonography program.

He turned around and walked back into his in-laws’ house, where he, his wife and their young son stay to save money.

“We’re not exactly flowing in dough at our house,” he told CTV News.

“We’re just a small, young family that need their tires.”

Looking at CCTV footage, Hardy says he believes the theft happened around 3:30 a.m.

That’s when you can see a truck pull up and, briefly, a person walking around.

That’s also when you can hear a noise that sounds like cranking.

Hardy called the RCMP.

Eventually, he made it to work, where he says he “kind of went through all of the different feelings.”

He says seeing his patients puts things in perspective.

“Everyone’s going through their own things,” he said.

At the end of the day…

Later, looking the vehicle over back at home, Hardy says there doesn’t seem to be any damage.

And it doesn’t seem as if anyone rummaged around inside.

It was just the tires.

Neighbours have already come by with offers to help out.

“It’s been a low and a high today with what I think about humanity,” he said.

“Feeling that disgust, then realizing people are pretty great overall.”

Hardy says those neighbours are “feeling a little apprehensive” after learning of what happened overnight.

He says many in the Riverview community have lived there for years.

“They’ve all told me nothing like this has ever happened,” he said.

“Our neighbours have told me they’re going to start parking in their garages.”
