The next couple of days will bring weather to take seriously

Published:

This is weather to take seriously so bundle up and be careful out there as we work our way through this frigid forecast.

It will be just as frigid on Tuesday.

In Calgary, the wind chill values will be in the minus 30s all day.

For Cochrane, Airdrie, Hanna and Pincher Creek areas, wind chills will hit -40.

It’s the cold we expect to get at times in February—and the cold to take seriously.

Make sure kids and pets are not outside for long, because frostbite to exposed skin can happen in less than 20 minutes.

And of course, hypothermia is a risk.

This is a longer-term cold stretch that will last for at least the first half of February, meaning we will be below normal until at least Valentine’s Day, but the coldest part of this stretch will last until Wednesday.

After Wednesday, it will still be cold, but less cold.

Expect to pick up a couple of centimetres of snow in Calgary between now and Wednesday morning.
