The Town of Taber is getting ready to celebrate its 120th birthday this summer with its Most A-maize-ing Year Ever event at the end of June.

Taber was officially incorporated as the Village of Taber in 1905 and two years later became a town.

To celebrate the major milestone, the town is hosting a birthday celebration on June 30 and July 1 with a range of festivities and a free concert in the park sponsored by Fortis Alberta and Power Fuelz.

Three headliners will be performing but have not been announced yet.

The town will also hold a variety of celebrations throughout the year to mark its 120th anniversary.

“It really is the people our community has been built on, good times and bad as all communities have,” said Meghan Brennan, the Town of Taber’s communications manager.

“But there’s a resilience in Taberites that I don’t know that you see elsewhere sometimes. … We survived the downturns of the Dirty 30s, droughts, fires, famines, you name it. We’ve survived and we’ve grown and thrived and it just goes to show that if you’ve got a dream and you’ve got some gumption, Taber is the right place for you.”

Details about upcoming celebrations and who will be headlining the birthday bash in June will be made available online at celebratetaber.ca in the coming weeks.
