Calgarians hoping to purchase a rain barrel can get a $50 rebate this year.
The City of Calgary has joined together with Green Calgary to offer the discount, which is available starting April 1.
To get the money, Calgarians purchasing rain barrels from either Green Calgary or a local vendor have to submit an application form with their receipts.
“Not only does captured rainwater keep yards and gardens healthy, rain barrels also help contain water on the property, reduce soil erosion and keep pollutants from being washed into waterways,” said Nicole Newton, spokesperson for the city of Calgary, in a Friday news release.
The barrels can only be purchased starting April 1, not any earlier.
The program is only offering the rebate for a maximum of 3,000 rain barrels – and only on two per household.
Green Calgary rain barrels cost $125, but that price drops to $75 with the rebate.
“Based on our experience from previous years, we know that supply does not always keep up with demand and we wanted to help make rain barrels more affordable to Calgarians who want to use them,” said Lex van der Raadt, Green Calgary executive director.

Online preorders are available through the Green Calgary website starting on April 1.
They can also be purchased at the following locations between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the dates listed below:
