It was a windy Thursday for much of southern Alberta with Environment and Climate Change Canada issuing wind warnings for southwest regions like Lethbridge and Pincher Creek.

Wind gusts of 91 km/h were clocked in Lethbridge at around noon today. The peak gust recorded at the Calgary Airport was 81 over the noon hour with there rest of the afternoon experiencing speeds of 40 – 60 km/h out of the west.

Those strong winds allowed Calgary to hit a high of 15 C this afternoon.

The title of “hottest community in Canada” was the hamlet of Rolling Hills between Brooks and Taber with a high of 17.1 C.

Overnight the winds will slow down and they will remain below 20 km/h for Friday. That will mean our high for Calgary won’t be as warm tomorrow but the sun will still be out in full force so it’s going to make for prime patio conditions heading into the first weekend of March.

Saturday and most of Sunday are looking fantastic to be outside, but a shift in the jet stream late Sunday will cause enough instability that many communities in southern Alberta could deal with a rain/snow mix in the overnight hours of Sunday and throughout Monday.

It will be a short-lived wet weather event though, with mild and sunny conditions returning on Tuesday.
