
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort was closed for the day on Monday after a gondola cabin crashed to the ground.
The B.C. ski resort said the incident, at around 9:20 a.m., involved a cabin near the base of the Golden Eagle Express gondola.
“No lifts will be open to the public today, the resort will be closed for the remainder of the day. Please note Golden Eagle Express gondola will remain closed until further notice,” Kicking Horse said in an update on its website.
Technical Safety BC is investigating, saying the gondola cabin fell from its lift line as it was leaving the loading station.
In video posted to social media Monday, a gondola cabin could be seen crashed on the ground near the base of the lift.
The resort said its ski patrol team and first responders responded to the scene. The maintenance team helped unload passengers.
Additionally, the resort said a full inspection has been initiated to determine the cause of the malfunction.
The resort said it would provide another update later in the day on Monday. CTV News has reached out to Kicking Horse for more information.
Kicking Horse is located in Golden, B.C., approximately 275 kilometres west of Calgary.
