Investigation underway into fatal collision southeast of Lethbridge

Investigation is underway into a fatal collision that took place Tuesday southeast of Lethbridge.

Coaldale RCMP say they responded at 8:11 p.m. Tuesday to Highway 4 near Range Road 210 for reports of a collision involving a Volkswagen Jetta and a Mitsubishi Outlander.

A 72-year-old man from Lethbridge resident was declared dead at the scene.

The two occupants of the Outlander were transported to hospital, where one was airlifted via STARS Air Ambulance to a Calgary hospital.

The second person was transported to hospital in Calgary by ground.

Police say both suffered serious injuries.

The highway, which was closed for several hours, has since reopened.

RCMP said in a media release that it sends its condolences to family and friends of the deceased.
