Ropes and helicopters were used to evacuate a disabled lift at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort on Monday, officials say, adding the gondola will be closed until further notice.
At 9:20 a.m. on March 10, a lift hanger holding one of the cabins on the Golden Eagle Express gondola at the Golden, B.C., resort broke, dropping the cabin about one metre to the ground.

Emergency crews immediately responded and rescued the eight passengers inside, who all avoided serious injury in the fall.

In an update on Tuesday, the resort said all the other passengers on the lift were safety rescued, an operation that included ropes and helicopters.
“Our sincere apologies go out to every one of our guests who have had to go through this experience today, and we thank them all for their patience and understanding,” said area manager Richard Oszust.
The gondola will now undergo a full inspection to determine the cause of the incident and any recommendations to prevent future failures.
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will be open on Tuesday, with the Catamount and Pioneer chairlifts operating as usual.
The resort’s Learning Centre is also open.
Officials say lift tickets will be reduced.
