The Calgary Flames have signed two NCAA players who just finished up their college careers in the Frozen Four.
The team announced the signings of forward Carter King and goalie Arsenii Sergeev on Monday.
King, a Calgary-born undrafted free agent, was the captain of the University of Denver’s squad, posting 21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points in 44 games.
He helped Denver to their third Frozen Four appearance in four seasons. King had three points in two qualification games before they were bounced by eventual champions Western Michigan in the semi-finals.
King and the Pioneers won national championships in both 2022 and 2024.
The one-year, two-way deal, which kicks in in 2025-26, carries an average value of $872,500.
Sergeev, of Yaroslavl, Russia, was the starting goalie for the Penn State Nittany Lions, suiting up in 33 games this past season, posting a .919 save percentage, a 2.54 goals-against average and a 19-9-4 record.
He also helped his team to their first Frozen Four in program history, turning away 42 of 44 shots in a 3-2 overtime victory against the University of Connecticut in the quarter-finals.
The Flames selected Sergeev in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft. His deal is a two-year, two-way deal, starting next season.
