Fire crews respond to 3 separate incidents Friday morning

Calgary fire crews were busy Friday morning as they responded to three separate incidents before 9 a.m.

Around 4:50 a.m., crews were dispatched to the 100 block of Martinvalley Mews N.E. for reports of a vehicle fire.

Crews discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from a cargo van burning in the alley.

They were able to quickly knock down the fire and limit the damage to a single vehicle. No one was injured.

Preliminary investigation suggests there were a number of heaters in the back of the van, keeping contents from freezing.

Around 8:05 a.m., crews responded to a second vehicle fire on Nose Hill Drive N.W. between Stoney Trail and 87 Street N.W.

Crews discovered a Calgary Transit shuttle bus on fire. The driver said they were the only person on board. Crews put down the fire. The driver was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 8:10 a.m., crews responded to a third fire, this time in the 2900 block of 58 Avenue S.E..

Crews discovered flames and smoke at the bottom of an embankment behind a local business.

They were able to cut a section of chain-link fence to access the area and knock down the fire.

They discovered two people, who were transported to hospital by EMS.

They discovered an encampment with various items including a generator, propane tanks and gas cans.

Preliminary investigation indicates the fire was caused by a heater inside a tent the two people were sleeping in.
