Female pedestrian in hospital following hit-and-run collision in north Calgary crosswalk

A hit-and-run collision in a north Calgary crosswalk put a pedestrian in the hospital Tuesday evening.

It happened shortly before 7 p.m. at Centre Street and 8th Avenue N.W.

According to police, an adult female was struck with a white sedan in a marked crosswalk, and the driver then fled.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Her injuries are currently not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are now searching for a suspect.

“It’s a hit-and-run involving a white sedan that was travelling southbound on Centre Street, and the pedestrian was crossing east to west on 8th Avenue,” said Sgt. Sean Sherman with the Calgary Police Service traffic unit.

“The vehicle hit the pedestrian and then continued southbound toward the downtown core.”

Investigators shut down roads in the area for a time while they investigated the crash.
