Parks Canada has issued a cougar warning in Waterton Lakes National Park.
Cougars have been frequenting the areas of Waterton Village, Linnet Lake and Prince of Wales trails, according to a bulletin posted on Tuesday.
Parks Canada recommends using special caution while travelling or camping the area, including:
- Keeping children close;
- Travelling in groups;
- Carrying bear spray and/or a walking stick;
- Remaining alert at all times, especially at dawn and dusk; and
- Keeping pets leashed.
The warning is in effect until further notice.

Any cougar sightings should be reported to Parks Canada by calling 1-888-927-3367 or alerting parks staff.
Waterton Park is located approximately 270 kilometres south of Calgary.
