Carbon monoxide leak at Rockyford, Alta., arena sends 3 to hospital

A faulty heater at the Rockyford Arena caused a carbon monoxide leak on Dec. 14, 2024.

A carbon monoxide incident Saturday night at the Rockyford arena sent several children to the Alberta Children's Hospital.

A post on the village's Facebook page says several children were treated on scene and three spent the night in hospital.

The post stated high levels of carbon monoxide were detected inside the building around 7 p.m. Saturday night and the arena was evacuated.

The Rockyford Fire Department and ATCO determined a radiant heater was defective and caused ta leak.

The arena will remain closed until the heaters are repaired and follow-up inspection is conducted to ensure everything is safe.

Rockyford is approximately 88 kilometres east of Calgary.
