Calgary police are looking for help identifying a man believed to be responsible for defrauding a local senior out of $12,000.

The victim, a woman in her 80s, called police on Jan. 27 after she received a call from a man claiming to be from a bank, saying he was investigating an employee and needed the woman’s help.

Police say over the next two days, the suspect convinced the woman to buy two $1,000 gift cards from grocery stores give him the security codes, as well as to withdraw $10,000 in cash from her bank.

The suspect then made plans to pick up the money from the victim’s home.

Once she became suspicious of the requests, she contacted police.

Police say though they’ve exhausted all investigative avenues to identify the man, they haven’t yet been able to.
