A Calgary man says he’s excited to share the $2 million he won on the lottery with his wife – as soon as she returns from visiting family in India.

Mahesh Gowda says he called her immediately when he discovered he had won.

“She was so excited,” he said in a Monday news release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.

“I couldn’t believe it at first,” Gowda added. “I just had to keep checking the ticket to see if it was real.”

Gowda bought his winning Western 6-49 ticket at the Jerry Convenience Store at on Saddletowne Circle N.E.

He won by matching all six numbers selected in the Dec. 11 draw: 6, 14, 28, 39, 41 and 47.

Gowda says the win could not come at a better time

“I was planning on retiring this year, so this will help,” he said. “I think I will plan a trip somewhere in the summer as well.”
