Calgary police arrested a man in Montgomery who was attacking another man in the street.

A Calgary man has been charged with attempted murder after an assault Saturday morning in Calgary’s northwest.

The incident took place at around 11:10 a.m., when police responded to a call on the 4500 block of Montgomery Avenue N.W. for reports of an assault in progress.

Witnesses said a man was violently attacking a second man who appeared to be unconscious, outside a home.

Officers discovered a man with a weapon attacking a second man who appeared to be unresponsive. Police were able to de-escalate the situation and took the first man into custody. The injured man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police believe that the two men got into fight inside the home, at which point the suspect dragged the unconscious victim onto the street, where he continued the assault.

At some point, they believe the suspect went back into the house to get a weapon, then continued to assault the victim.

Nasser Kasigwa, 31, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

“This brazen and violent assault has left one man fighting for his life and has deeply impacted the lives of those in the community who witnessed it in broad daylight,” said Staff Sgt. Brad Moore of the Calgary police.

“We are committed to holding the offender accountable for such a senseless act of violence and providing support to those affected by the incident.”
