Calgary charity BB4CK to continue providing lunches during teachers’ strike

A Calgary non-profit organization that provides children in need with healthy lunches says it is still committed to operating during the upcoming teachers’ strike.

Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK) is planning to work with community partners so families can grab lunches in their communities.

“We know that if students are out of school really for any reason – but certainly for something as big as a potential strike – they may be missing the opportunity to access the food that they need,” said BB4CK executive director Bethany Ross.

“Our goal is to have at least a couple locations where folks can get food in every quadrant of the city.”

BB4CK provides nearly 8,000 lunches to kids at more than 290 schools across the city.

According to the organization, more than one third of children in Alberta are living in a household experiencing food insecurity.
