Calgarians invited to saxophone concert for a cause

Saxophone music will fill Calgary’s Grace Presbyterian Church Saturday.

Multi-award winning contemporary African saxophonist, vocalist, and composer Perpetual Awele Atife (Perpie) and her One Village Orchestra are inviting Calgarians to their performance.

“My artistry is largely influenced by the true concept of community,” said Perpie.

“A community that shares cultural and economic bonds in creative spaces.”

Roots in Motion: A JazzTale Project promises to explore the intersection of heritage, hope and connection through a fusion of jazz, soul and classical music.

Perpie explains that “despite the brokenness today, community is like that unexplainable channel between divinity and humanity through which healing and beauty can be restored.”

Five per cent of all ticket sales are being donated to The Mustard Seed, which offers more than 700 warm places to sleep on the coldest nights.

With the deep-freeze settling in, attendees are also asked to bring winter jackets, gloves, blankets, towels and men’s medium-sized clothing.

The concert is from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
