A high school in Brooks, Alta., was locked down on Monday morning due to a social media threat, but police ultimately determined the school was not at risk.
Brooks RCMP said it received a report of a potential threat at Brooks Composite High School around 8:25 a.m.
The school was immediately placed under lockdown and officers responded to search the facility.
Police found no threat but placed the school under a hold and secure while they continued their investigation.
“Investigation has revealed that there was no direct threat to the school, however, (the threat) did involve students from the school,” RCMP said in a Monday news release.
RCMP arrested a male youth at his home in Tilley, Alta.
Grasslands Public Schools posted a letter to parents and guardians on its website, saying the threat was posted on social media.
It said Eastbrook Elementary School, Brooks Junior High School and Sunrise School were also placed in a hold and secure.
“We want to reassure families that at no point was there an individual with a weapon on any school premises,” the school division said in the letter.
“Reports circulating on social media suggesting otherwise are not accurate.”
Brooks is located approximately 190 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
