What a difference a day can make!
Calgarians woke up this morning to a temperature of -10 C, quite the contrast to the 10 C at the same time Thursday.
These chilly temps are fueled by a large polar vortex swirling over the eastern prairies sending cold, dry air from the north into the city.
Wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/h are making it feel more like -17 C this morning, they will ease up a little bit this afternoon with a daytime high of -7 C.

If you have travel plans east of Calgary, keep in mind there is a blowing snow advisory currently in place along the Trans-Canada east of the city.
Wind warnings also linger for the extreme southeast corner of Alberta.
Alberta 511 is a great resource for current road conditions before heading out on your trip.
Flurries will pick up a bit this evening in Calgary but clearing will begin overnight into Saturday where the sunshine will return but will do little to improve the temperatures.
Both Saturday and Sunday are slated to have highs of just -15 C with overnight lows in the minus 20s.
So, when do we finally get out of this cold snap?
The upper low will start to track into Eastern Canada later on Sunday so temperatures start to rally heading into Monday, with the chance of some positive temperatures as early as Tuesday.

If you want to make the most of the cold weather, storm chaser Chris Ratzlaff has a great activity! Ice bubbles!
