The applications affected included WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Facebook Messenger, according to third-party website Downdetector.com.

Earlier on Wednesday, Meta acknowledged the outage, stating that “a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps,” and was working on resolving the issue “as quickly as possible.”

The outage appears to have begun at 12:40 p.m. ET and peaked at 1:05 p.m. ET. Connectivity restored shortly after.

Earlier this year, Meta experienced a similar outage that also affected thousands of users due to a technical issue.
