If your Monday morning started a little darker than usual, you’ll never believe what caused it.

Around 8,500 InnPower customers in Innisfil experienced an unexpected power outage early Monday morning.

The culprit? An osprey attempting to nest on a key supply circuit, according to the energy and renewables company.

“While ospreys are a protected species known to return to the same nesting locations each year, their interaction with critical infrastructure can pose risks to both public safety and the birds themselves,” said InnPower.

Power has now been restored to all affected customers south of Innisfil Beach Road and east of 20th Sideroad between Innisil Beach Road and 10th Line.

InnPower encourages customers to plan for the unexpected:

“Although this event was out of our control, it serves as an important reminder of the value of emergency preparedness for all customers.”

  • Keep a battery-powered flashlight and extra batteries on hand
  • Charge essential device in advance of incoming weather systems
  • Unplug sensitive electronics during outages to avoid surges
  • Update contact preferences in your InnPower account to receive alerts and restoration updates
