Two passengers in hospital after vehicle overturns in steep ditch, 23-year-old facing charges

Provincial police have charged a 23-year-old with impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash in New Tecumseth over the weekend.

On Sunday, around 2 a.m., officers responded to a collision on the 14th Line, where they found a vehicle overturned in a steep ditch.

Emergency crews helped three people from the wreckage. Authorities say two passengers sustained significant injuries and were taken to the local hospital for care.

Police stated that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was allegedly compromised by alcohol. The New Tecumseth man was arrested and taken to the local hospital as a precaution.

He was charged with operation causing bodily harm and operation while impaired; his license was also suspended for 90 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the courts at a later date.

“With the Christmas and holiday season approaching, the OPP is reminding motorists to make safe choices. Impaired driving puts lives at risk and can turn celebrations into tragedies,” stated Nottawasaga police in a Monday release.
