Police have charged a woman in relation to an ongoing theft and fraud investigation in the Town of New Tecumseth.

On Dec., 23, just before 8 p.m., Nottawasaga police responded to a report of a theft at the FreshCo on Young Street.

Police say a woman walked into the store and allegedly placed several items in her backpack, then proceeded to purchase the remaining items in the shopping cart with a store employee’s debit card.

It is unclear how the woman allegedly obtained the FreshCo employee’s debit card.

Officials confirmed that the suspect was a frequent shopper at the store, and was last seen wearing a black coat and a black backpack with a red design.

Days before the incident, Nottawasaga OPP were requesting the community’s help in identifying a woman involved in a theft and fraud investigation.

After police confirmed the incidents aligned, officers charged a 46-year-old resident of Alliston on Tuesday with two counts of fraud under $5,000, theft under $5,000 and a few other charges.

The accused has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the courts in February.
