A Muskoka sanctuary is mourning the loss of Jinx, a 15-year-old lynx who died after a late-stage kidney failure.
This is a condition that members of Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary say is commonly observed in older male cats. Jinx has been a special addition to the sanctuary over the last 12 years, where he lived alongside his lifelong companion Jardica.
This wildcat’s journey dates decades back... he was first discovered in captivity at the Ministry of Natural Resources’ wildlife compound at Springwater Provincial Park. When the compound closed, Aspen Valley member’s stepped in to provide him with a permanent home.
Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary broke the devastating news in a social media post on Tuesday, “Rest easy, sweet Jinx. We miss you terribly, but your legacy will live on forever in our hearts. We will treasure the joy you brought into our lives and we cherished memories of your time here.”
At Aspen, members say Jinx thrived under the dedicated care of staff and volunteers. His bond with Jardica was a highlight of his years at the sanctuary, demonstrating the deep connections wild animals can form under human care.

While his passing is a great loss, the sanctuary finds solace in knowing that Jinx lived a fulfilling life, surrounded by those who adored him.
Members say Jinx’s legacy will continue to inspire the work at the Muskoka wildlife sanctuary.
