A man accused of causing a collision that killed one woman and injured several others last year in Clearview Township is facing a new charge.

Daniel Richie, the 34-year-old man police say was speeding before getting into a deadly crash two years ago in Clearview Township, was back in custody Thursday in Barrie accused of an alleged breach of his release conditions.

Richie was granted bail on a promise to pay $75,0000 under strict conditions, including wearing a GPS ankle monitor and house arrest. Richie is accused of failing to notify police of an address change. It’s alleged he may have been trying to flee. His preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin in July.

Provincial police believe Richie was speeding 173 km/h along Highway 26 September 23, 2023, at around 8 a.m. before crashing into another vehicle killing 31-year-old Katie Marshall and her two dogs.

Marshall’s husband, police said, was flown by Ornge air ambulance to Toronto, along with one of the five children riding in Richie’s vehicle that morning.

It is alleged Richie was driving more than double the posted 80 km/h speed limit during poor weather conditions before running a stop sign and crashing into the other vehicle at 3/4 Sunnidale Sideroad and Concession Road 9.
