A local foodbank says they are the victim of a security breach after two suspects allegedly broke into their external mailbox, potentially taking money donations.
On Wednesday, the Orangeville Food Bank located on Commerce Road released a statement on their social media page, addressing the situation, “The Orangeville Food Bank regrets to inform our valued community members of a security incident that occurred at our facility. In the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan., 18 at approximately 4:16 a.m., two individuals broke into our external mailbox, potentially compromising donations that arrived in Friday’s mail delivery.”
Members of the food bank say they reported the incident to police, along with security footage.
“While we work with law enforcement to address this unfortunate situation, we are reaching out to our generous donors with an important request. If you mailed a donation to the Orangeville Food Bank recently, particularly during the week leading up to Jan., 18, we kindly ask that you contact us to confirm whether your contribution has been received.”
Through this process, the food bank says they will be able to accurately account for any missing donations and ensure that everyone who donated gets a proper “thank you.”
“Every donation to our food bank represents someone’s compassionate desire to help their neighbors in need,” shared members of the food bank.
The organization is taking this alleged breach very seriously and says they will be implementing strong security measures to prevent this from ever happening again.
“We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we address this situation,” they continued.

“We thank our community for their ongoing support and vigilance in helping us serve those in need,” concluded the food bank in a statement.
