In response to this weekend’s major ice storm, four of the major Simcoe Muskoka school boards announced that their schools are to be closed on Monday.
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB), French public school board (Viamonde), and the French Catholic school board (MonAvenir) sent notices about their closures to CTV News or on their websites.
“Due to widespread power outages and unsafe conditions from the ice storm in our region, all SCDSB schools will be closed to students on Monday,” said Sarah Kekewich from the SCDSB in a message to CTV News. “This includes Learning Centres and the career centre. In addition, before and after school programs at SCDSB elementary schools will not be operating. Students who are able may access learning materials on the digital platform established by their teacher.”
In a news release, the SMCDSB also cited the extent of the damage caused by the storm and that many of their staff members must travel between regions.
MonAvenir sent an email to their students on Sunday and Viamonde published a notice on their website.
The school boards say they will provide updates on Monday regarding the status of their school days for Tuesday.
