Holiday schedule for parking, transit, rec centres, and more

The City of Barrie is reminding residents of scheduling changes over the holiday season for several of its services including parking, recreation centres, City Hall, curbside collection, and transit.

Parking

The City says to take advantage of the free two-hour parking which is in effect through the month of December until Dec. 31. It encourages residents and visitors to explore shops, restaurants, and services downtown.

The City also reminds residents downtown parking on streets and in lots is free on statutory holidays, while waterfront parking is enforced all year round.

There are exceptions to the overnight parking by-law – the City says residents can park overnight on Dec. 25, 26, and Jan. 1 from 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m. unless a Winter Maintenance Event is put into effect.

Recreation Centres

The Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, East Bayfield Community Centre, and Allandale Recreation Centre have the following holiday schedule:

• Dec. 24: Open 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Dec. 25 and 26: Closed
• Dec. 27 to 30: Normal operating hours
• Dec. 31: Open 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Jan. 1: Closed
• Jan. 2: Normal operating hours

The 55+ Centres will operate on the following holiday schedule:

• Parkview Centre: Closed on Dec. 24, 25, 26, and Jan. 1
• Allandale 55+ Centre: Closed at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 24 and 31, and closed on Dec. 25, 26, and Jan. 1

City Hall:

Barrie City Hall will have the following schedule:

• Dec. 24: Open 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Dec. 25 and 26: Closed
• Dec. 29: Open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Dec. 30: Open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Dec. 31: Open 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Jan. 1: Closed
• Jan. 2: Open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Curbside Collection:

Curbside collection will have the following changes:

• Dec. 25: No curbside waste collection; collection moved to the next day for the rest of the week.
• Jan. 1: No curbside waste collection; collection moved to the next day for the rest of the week.
• The landfill is closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26, and Jan. 1. The landfill will close at 12 p.m. on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

Barrie Transit:

Barrie transit will operate on the following holiday schedule:

• Dec. 24: Regular weekday service
• Dec. 25: No transit service
• Dec. 26: Operating on a Sunday schedule, with an early start time (7 a.m.)
• Dec. 31: Free transit service starts at 5 p.m. with regular evening service extending until 3 a.m. (excludes Highway 400 Express Route)
• Jan. 1: No transit service
