The proposed redevelopment of the former Owen Sound Courthouse and Jail is underway.
The City has plans to transform the current site into an event and entertainment venue with demolition set to begin this year. Part of the preparations include removing non-heritage buildings and structures.
Structures slated for demolition include the single-story attached garage on the north side of the Governor’s Residence, along with various accessory buildings and structures like fire escapes, exterior stairwells, and other additions located within the southern Jail yard.
Non-original additions to the north and south sides of the 1854 Jail will also be removed, as well as some minor non-structural interior partitions, stated the City.

The Jail portion of the site will be preserved, with demolitions carefully limited to non-designated elements.
Once complete, the redeveloped site has plans to serve as a vibrant event venue capable of hosting weddings, business gatherings, and personal celebrations.
The facility will feature on-site restaurants, drinking establishments, and both indoor and outdoor entertainment spaces, including an outdoor patio. Overnight accommodations will also be available, shared the City.
